*Chios (Greek: Χίος) is the fifth largest of the Greek islands, situated in the Aegean Sea, seven kilometres (five miles) off the Asia Minor coast. The island is separated from Turkey by the Chios Strait. The island is noted for its strong merchant shipping community, its unique mastic gum and its medieval villages.
In the Middle Ages on the east coast of the island, there were several dozens of windmills.
Confirms for this can be considered one of the known engravings from "Braun and Hogenberg", 1588:At the moment there are only a few buildings.
