The key theme of this year's EXPO 2000 in Hannover - "Humankind - Nature - Technology: A new world arising" - was the basis for designing a stamp celebrating the third millennium. The theme is founded on the AGENDA 21 - the UN environmental policy action programme for 21st century - which was signed by 179 countries at the United Nations conference in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The programme is based on the largest task facing us in this new millennium - saving the planet from destruction. It will only be successful if we immediately stop destroying the natural environment.
Some programmes and actions are already under way and we can only hope that common sense will prevail and nations will work more closely in search for global solutions for the good of all human race and all living creatures on the Earth.
Luckily, life always finds its way.
